This week we had our Crit session. Below you can find the video that I presented during this session.

I feel that it was a valuable session. One of the things that I realised as I was preparing for it, was that for my particular practice, the documentation of my process is vital. This is because I place a lot of emphasis on my process – to the point that the process almost becomes more important than the end-product/finished artwork. I will therefore invest more time to capture my process with more professional videography in order to improve my documentation and presentation in the future.

Feedback: I got some good feedback. Nuvea said she enjoyed watching the video and wanted it to carry on. Michele agreed that I needed to continue documenting my process in this way. Sissel felt that it was great that I am using the material from nature, and found in the very place where I got my inspiration from. There was some more feedback, but I was not able to write all of it down. I felt encouraged to continue on my path!

The video’s below is aimed at showing what I have been working on over the past few weeks, which was mainly a material investigation with botanical lake pigments and inks. The inspiration for this was an immersive experience which I explain in more detail in another post called: Week 13: Making Day – Sharing the pre-making-day process here:

I sometimes feel like I should be making more ‘ARTwork’ but I find myself stuck (very happy and mesmerised) working with raw materials and making new discoveries. Images of what I want to do with the materials are brewing in my mind and as you will see in this video, I am working on a painting and some more paintings are slowly emerging.

Video of the material investigation, showing the process from initial inspiration to working on a painting with self-made botanical pigments. The natural sounds in the background – some of which was recorded in the eucalyptus forest and some was sourced from my own library. It is telling of the sensory experience this process involves.
