Here is my feedback after another helpful session with Michele this Thursday. I am feeling the pressure with regards to assessment and will be diving into the action points listed at the bottom:
Reflections since last tutorial (if applicable)
Since our last tutorial, I have worked hard to elaborate and broaden my literature resources and have aimed to create a clearer description of what my area of interest will be and what research I will use to base it on. I felt that I lacked clarity and everything felt a bit abstract. Due to this almost confused state that I was in, I spent a lot of time researching and organising my thoughts in order to ‘clear my table’. I felt the need to ‘clear my table’ with regards to theory in order to focus on the practical side. That said, I have been brainstorming the methods and materials that will be the best fit for linking with my theory and have been preparing and experimenting with various formats and surfaces as well as work in clay.
Since our last tutorial I have read ‘Topophilia’ by Yi-Fu Tuan as suggested by Michele and have found it to be very informative.
Overall feedback notes from tutorial discussion
Although I didn’t have specific questions related to assessment or practical work, I wanted to briefly discuss the best format for the essay and it was good to hear Michele stress the fact that my practical work needs to be central to the essay and that I could include images. Also that the conclusion didn’t need to be a final conclusion but perhaps rather point to future research.
Michele was concerned about the fact that practical work was absent from my Research Journal and said that I there were some gaps with regards to the more recent posts that needed filling in.
We discussed the fact that I might need to include Risk assessment and Ethic procedures (or reference to that) in my work for assessment so that it is clear that I am aware of that aspect.
Action points arising from the tutorial
- I will make sure to look at the Risk Assessment and Ethics procedures.
- I will update my more recent posts in the Research Journal to include practical work and documentation.
- I will add enough reference and images of my practical work to my journal and essay as well as artists who has influenced me.
